Launched by The Young Foundation, the Youth Futures Foundation and the Mohn Westlake Foundation, and funded through the Kickstart Scheme, a new initiative will employ over 30 unemployed young people in the UK, and provide peer researcher training to explore issues affecting the employment of people in their age group.
After completing training, these young people will use their research skills to explore employment opportunities and limitations in their local areas. They will also create research projects on issues important to them.
Helen Goulden, executive director of The Young Foundation, said: "This is a unique opportunity to support young people in building solid skills and employment networks, at the same time fulfilling their desire to create positive social change in their communities."
The Department for Work and Pensions has also announced the launch of 110 youth hubs to support young people in finding a job. These hubs are based in all districts, including districts in London, and have partnered with charities, local authorities and colleges to provide advice and support to young people on training and employment.
