Eurochild signs open letter welcoming the "Regulation laying down rules to prevent and combat child sexual abuse" proposed by the European Commission

On 11 May, the European Commission shared a proposal for a regulation on how to prevent and fight child sexual abuse online that could potentially help the global fight against child sexual abuse both online and offline.

Over 62% of online child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is hosted on servers based in the EU, and yet most of these images remain hidden and, most importantly, unreported. This proposed regulation is an essential step to ensure that children are free to be curious and to explore online spaces safely.

But as with any proposal, ironing out the details will be key to ensure a positive outcome for children. Together with more than 60 organisations, Eurochild signed an open letter highlighting the positive measures of this regulation and offering our unique expertise to build safe online spaces for all and not just for adults.
