Terre des hommes Hungary organized another intensive training in the frames of the EU-funded WELL-U Project between 15-18 May 2023. The training was conducted by the psychotherapist Etion Parruca, together with 16 Ukrainian and Hungarian participants from various professional background.

The training’s most prominent goal was to make the participants acquainted with the so-called MGSC methodology developed originally by Terre des hommes in 2005. The complete name of the methodology is “Movement, Games, Sports and Creativity”, all of which are used as psycho-social tools to promote the wellbeing of kids.

In the training, the participants learnt about the mental, physical and emotional goals of MGSC games, such as:

  • ability to concentrate, to observe, to anticipate, ability to think, to put a strategy in place, to make a decision, etc.

  • flexibility, strength, endurance, resistance, speed, orientation, reaction, rhythm, balance, etc.

  • self-esteem, enthusiasm, creativity, responsibility, honesty, determination, trust in others, respect, empathy, communication, commitment, cooperation, etc.

There were numerous practical and colourful exercises and demo sessions as well when participants could test and demonstrate their newly acquired skills and techniques with a group of fellow participants. Also, participants learnt how they can reuse and transform traditional team plays into more inclusive and cooperative games that promote trust, participation and cooperation among kids.

The long-term goal of this MGSC training is to put the methodology into practice by organizing and conducting MGSC sessions for kids fleeing from Ukraine. We hope to support Ukranian kids already in the upcoming Summer Camp organized by Tdh Hungary in July 2023.
