The annual ChildHub conference, ‘Modern Technologies in the Social Welfare System’, was held 12 October 2019, at the Hotel Dubrovnik in Zagreb, and was attended by more than 60 experts.

Tanja Žaja, head of the sector for coordination of reform processes and modernization of the social welfare system from the Ministry of Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy, presented the digitalisation process within the social welfare system and delved into the ministry’s future plans.

Vanja Branica presented the Chamber of Social Workers with the point system for off- and online courses and education, and explained the importance of continuous education and obtaining new and relevant information.

Lucija Veimelka, who holds a PhD. from the social work college of the University of Zagreb, spoke about the ethical dilemmas that might arise when professionals communicate with clients via modern technologies, and urged professionals to rethink using social networks to become familiar with a client.

Brave Phone experts participated in the conference: Mirna Čagalj Farkas presented communication tools with children, young people and parents and counselling chat, and Vesna Katalinić presented the e-learning platform, Child Hub, and the micro learning tool, Zunos.

Aleksandra Mudrinić, from the Croatian organization CARNet, presented a national project about ‘smart institutions’ and how the welfare system could work within them, and opened the door for future collaboration.
