According to the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, unaccompanied migrants across Europe are facing an increasing number of challenges, and ensuring child rights, especially in relation to migrating children, remains unachieved. The President made these remarks to a wide range of experts attending the ‘Lost in Migration’ Conference in Malta. The conference focused on the challenges and possible solutions to ensuring children’s safety and protection, especially in regard to extremely vulnerable children like unaccompanied migrants and child asylum seekers. According to Malta`s president, “we must address the unacceptable lack of efficient national protection systems, and the ineffective solidarity being shown amongst the EU Member State when it comes to the protection of migrating children”.  She added that the status quo has “direct consequence of leaving our children more vulnerable to violence, exploitation, trafficking, and abuse.” More about the speakers who took part in the conference and the main points of discussion can be found at the link below.
