For Save the Children, child exploitation is an umbrella term used to describe the abuse of children who have been coerced, cheated, coerced, or sold for exploitation.

Sexual exploitation of children is a form of sexual abuse of children. This occurs when an individual or group uses an imbalance of power to force, manipulate, or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity:

  • in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or
  • for financial advantage or higher status of perpetrator or mediator.

The victim may be sexually exploited even if there appears to be consent to sexual activity.

Sexual exploitation of children does not always involve physical contact; it can also happen with the use of technology. For Save the Children, sexual abuse and exploitation of children include both early and forced marriages of children.

This webinar will try to provide answers to some of the questions we often encounter: why does the victim not report violence? How does violence survive? How is it possible to break the vicious circle of violence?
