According to an announcement from the Ministry of Justice, the Positions of Trust Law, which now applies to teachers and social workers and others in similar roles, is going to be extended as part of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill to be unveiled in parliament today.

The football abuse scandal in 2016 highlighted how adults utilized their positions of authority in sports settings to abuse children. Campaigning to extend the law has started after this case.

This step sends a very clear message to children, that they can return to the extracurricular activities they love without being at risk of grooming or abuse from the adults they rely on.
