Psychosocial support for children on the move: art as a way of expression [ChildHub Webinar]

This webinar is adressed to all the actors providing psychosocial support and life skills activities to children and youth.

Within the current European refugee crisis, children, youth, families and adults have been staying in Greece for months within Emergency Reception sites, more commonly called "camps" where Terre des hommes, in collaboration with its partner Arsis, have been implementing psychosocial activities.

Part of those activities aimed at helping children and youth to find a way to express their feelings and frustration and develop a new way of communication through the language of art. While some of them chose to use cameras as a tool, others decided to draw their story. 

This webinar will present two examples of participatory methods of work with children and young people on the move: a documentary and a comic book. 
 

About the lecturers:

Faustine Douillard
Specialized in mixed migration protection, Faustine Douillard started to work with refugee crises in Jordan before going to Calais to support refugee stranded population. Being there as a legal advisor, her work was outreach oriented, accessing squats and informal living arrangements in order to support this population with legal aid related to asylum procedures. During this time Faustine worked closely with minors and unaccompanied children trying to cross the border to England. Due to the lack of adapted infrastructures and the high risks of smuggling and trafficking Faustine's work progressively involved more identification, prevention and response to human trafficking victims. Faustine arrived in Greece in August 2016 for a general protection project of Terre des hommes including psychosocial support to children on the move.

Ira Dika

Ira Dika was born in Tirana, Albania. She is a graduate student of Film Department of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During her studies she made two documentaries and some non-dialogue short films. Her short film “Boil” received awards at several film festivals. Her first documentary “Stavroula” premiered at the 14th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Her documentary Salt Flats / ALYKES was funded by the Greek Film Center and it’s been broadcasted by OTE TV. Her work focuses mainly on marginalized characters and socially vulnerable groups of people. In the past she worked as an attendant for persons with mental and physical disorders. 

Stavroula Anthiropoulou
Stavroula Anthiropoulou, born in Belgium in 1987, has studied the French philosophy at Aristotelou University of Thessaloniki. She is a French teacher and a comic’s artist. Her work is published in Athens. By combining her experience in education and art, she achieves a course that is at the same time playful and instructive.
