Services, Perceived Needs, and Recommendations following the Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants on the Move in Europe

The primary goal of this rapid mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) needs assessment is to obtain an understanding of existing services, strengths and identified needs following the refugees, asylum seekers and migrants on the move in Serbia. The results will inform the program design of International Medical Corps' MHPSS initiatives to address existing gaps in services and supports.

Data collection focused on assessing the availability and accessibility of existing mental health and psychosocial support services as well as community aspects of mental health and wellbeing among affected populations. This assessment focused on identifying needs as a well as resources.

Methodology

The rapid MHPSS needs assessment was conducted by IMC's MHPSS Consultant Marcio Gagliato from January 14th - 27th 2016. The assessment tools were adapted from the UNHCR/WHO publication (2012), "assessing Mental Health and Psychosocial Needs and Resources: Toolkit for Major Humanitarian Crises." This assessment is based on a desk review of current policy documents and field research that included interviews with key stakeholders as well as observations at transit sites in Serbia
