Children’s experience of domestic abuse and criminality

During the lockdown measures, children may experience continuous mental and physical pressure from abusive family members. The review “Sowing the Seeds” by Dr. Elaine Wedlock, Dr. Julian Molina mainly covers:

  • an overlap between children’s experience of domestic abuse and children’s offending behavior
  • children experiencing domestic abuse seek activities outside of the home leaving them vulnerable to sexual and criminal exploitation, also the criminal justice response to child criminal exploitation is inconsistent depending on which police officer or police force they encounter
  • call for children who experience domestic abuse to be recognized in the statute as victims of crime
  • call for a more comprehensive strategy for children as victims of criminal exploitation, serious violence, and organized criminal groups.

By this review, they are not only trying to surface the current situation but also trying to tell people that the children who went through domestic abuse can be one of a factor of the constant and increased case of crimes and violence between children also in further future. And by paying attention and taking measures on these cases will help to decrease the future crime and violence originated from domestically abused children.
