Europe is facing a crisis of irregular and dysfunctional migration (and management) and a continuing influx of refugees and economic migrants. With a regrettable increase in suspicion and fear among some European citizens and governments, this has often translated into increased xenophobia towards migrants and diaspora communities. The session will show that more investment on social cohesion and full integration of migrants can have higher societal and economic benefits for development. It will do this by sharing and debating different awareness-raising approaches: economic evaluations and evidence-based research, together with multi-media campaigns and a showcase of diaspora and migrant contributions that strengthen social cohesion and sustainable development. Organised in conjunction with ADEPT, FORIM, SISST.
