About the webinar

A very strong earthquake hit Albania on 26th of November 2019 with a death toll of 51 people, 45 saved from the ruins and 950 injured. Thousands of houses destroyed or claimed unlivable and with many schools, business etc damaged. Approximately 20,000 people around half of which children are believed to be directly affected in the most striken areas; Durres, Tirana. Lezha and their surroundings.

Amongst many basic needs the psycho-social support is immediately required. A major concern is related with the emotional trauma caused by the shocking event as well as the stress caused by the displacement. There is a high presence of psycho-social professionals in the newly arranged living locations who need professional orientation, tools and experienced support in dealing with the first psychological aid and post trauma.

To respond to this need, Childhub is providing a series of webinars in Albanian language called “The Help After Trauma” for the professionals that are offering post – trauma, psycho-social assistance to the affected population. The first webinar of this series will guide the participants through the ” Meaning of trauma: What happens to the people affected in different ways, including the professionals that are offering the psychological help?”

The upcoming two meetings of the series will go through the following issues:

- What is the psychological  aid and how best to provide it for different age groups.
- What are the do-es and don't-s?
- How to understand when there is a need for more specialized help and where / how to refer?
- How to protect ourselves from burn-out
- Etc
