Because the ‘Best Interests of the Child’ (BIC) principle is well-known, but very differently understood, Save the Children Albania has commissioned International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI) to develop a tool that practitioners in the child protection system can use to make (better) Best Interest Determinations (BIDs). The following docs will help proffesionals involved in the child protection and welfare system to determine the Best Interest of the Child.
These guidelines are intended primarily for Child Protection Workers (CPWs) working in the Child Protection Units (CPUs) and the Needs Assessment and Referral Units (NARUs) at local level. But the guidelines and checklist can also be used by other professionals such as those involved in the inter sectorial teams, those from the judiciary system etc.
The real aim of these documents is to provide practitioners with a practical, easy to use tool that will support them in making best interests of the child assessments and determinations.
