In a significant milestone, Terre des hommes' Emergency Response to the Ukraine crisis program in Hungary has concluded, marking a period of transformative impact on the lives of children and families affected by the crisis. The project, carried out in collaboration with various partners, reached its conclusion on September 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of positive change.
One of the standout achievements of the program is the provision of mental health and psychosocial support to 432 children and accompanying adults. Experts engaged in 2533 consultations, addressing the critical need for mental health assistance in the aftermath of the crisis. This not only provided immediate relief but also laid the foundation for long-term healing.
In the realm of education, 567 children were actively involved in formal or informal learning opportunities, including early learning initiatives. Furthermore, 345 children enjoyed the enriching experiences of holiday camps and summer programs, fostering a sense of normalcy and joy amid challenging circumstances.
Critical to the project's success was the training of 109 individuals in child protection and child rights, strengthening the community's ability to safeguard its most vulnerable members. Meanwhile, the dissemination of messages on prevention and access to services reached 1471 people, spanning social protection, healthcare, nutrition, and education.
Terre des hommes' multifaceted approach encompassed fieldwork, capacity building, and advocacy. Field teams provided essential child protection services, psychological first aid, and information on available assistance. Capacity-building efforts included training programs, materials, and webinars for partners and organizations working with children. Through advocacy, the project channeled experiences from the field to local and national decision-makers, driving systemic changes to better address the real problems and needs of beneficiaries.
The success of the Emergency Response project was made possible through collaboration with key partners, including IOM Hungary, UNICEF, CdCS, Z Foundation, Oak Foundation, and the Canton of Lucern. From July 2022 onwards, Terre des hommes worked in partnership with UNICEF, alongside the Budapest Municipality, the Budapest Methodological Center and Institutions, and the Traumacenter.
