The Ministry of Human Resources (EMMI) declared their committment to combating violence against women on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women EMMI. A new Hungarian Penal Code came into force in 2013 which protects women and punishes violent crimes against women, the statement said. It also points out the importance of reporting the problem as soon as possible and of asking for help. This year, the 'Get Connected Now' ('Kapcsolj egyből!') phone application will help with this.

In addition to 3 billion forints from the EU, EMMI also supports the fight against relationship violence, and has raised 150 million forints in budget support for the National Crisis Management and Information Service (OKIT). OKIT is a free, 24-hour phone service: 06-80-20-55-20.
