The international organization Save the Children of Sweden has created a “map of the children’s world” where there are countries that have explicitly banned all forms of corporal punishment of children in all settings. What was considered radical in the 1970s has now become the official norm in more than 50 of the world's 203 nations, with the governments of at least 56 other nations committed to reforming the law.

Among them is Serbia, which has expressed its willingness to ban all corporal punishment of children by accepting the recommendation made during the Universal Periodic Review of Serbia in 2008, and this commitment was confirmed by accepting similar recommendations in 2013 and again in 2018.
