The article gives information about the existence of prejudice toward Roma people and the role of famous politicians for solving this problem. One of these politicians is Angela Merkel who recently received the Sinti and Roma civic prize after Simone Veil and Andrej Kiska. The chancellor donated half of the prize money (€15,000) to the ternYpe International Roma Youth Network led from Brussels and the other half to a neighbourhood and job integration project called Grünbau in Dortmund.
Romani Rose (chairman of the Central Council of Sinti and Roma in Germany) mentioned the following main points in Wednesday's ceremony in Mannheim:
- How the term antiziganism replaces the pejorative "antigypsyism" widely rejected by the minority.
- The troubled 600-year history of Sinti and Roma in Europe.
- the effort of chancellor, Angele Merkel for the interests of the minority and stands as few others [do] for an open and democratic state committed to the rule of law.
Moreover, in spite of all these contributions, the prejudice and marginalization toward the Roma people still exist which the chancellor called a disgrace.
