The voluntary participation of the child is an essential requirement to ensure a continuous, conscious and assumed process. The application of this standard requires the adult to take into account the child's evolving abilities, the experience of participation, as well as the social roles that the child has in the family, at school and in other life contexts. Representatives of the member organizations of the Alliance of Active NGOs in the field of Child and Family Social Protection (APSCF) reflected on this topic at the third online session of the training program on child participation in decision-making.
The event is organized monthly by APSCF in collaboration with the People's Advocate Office, the Child Rights Information and Documentation Center, with the support of Sweden through the "Save the Children" Foundation. The aim of the workshops is to better understand the standards of true and ethical participation of the child and, at the same time, to strengthen a society that monitors, defends and promotes the rights of the child.
The event was attended by about 30 people from several organizations. Professionals reflected on the following aspects: what represents the voluntary participation of the child (including providing informed consent; ensuring the power balance between children - children and children - adults); refusing or withdrawing of the child from the process at any stage; involvement of the child in ways / forms that are appropriate to his age; abilities and interests, free choice and decision-making of conscious and assumed participation.
