Ministers already have overlooked and undervalued childcare sector and the financial issues caused by the coronavirus made it even harder for them to survive. Early years settings are an essential part of the social infrastructure and the support they get is not enough.

A new survey by the Alliance - responded by 3000 early years provider – shows a quarter of childcare providers are worried they have to close within the next year. The government has not provided enough support for the sector, so the staff they had already furloughed could be fired soon.

It is also a hard time for self-employed childminders and others who have been operating for less than a year because they are unable to access any support scheme.

The finding shows how worrying this situation is for this sector and the government should accept they need to give more support to early years providers.
