This relationship-based practice framework sets out the importance of working with children and their families involved in private or public law proceedings, based on developing trusting relationships, where listening, understanding, clear reasoning, respect, and integrity are prioritized.
The workbook outlines the five practice mechanisms that support the values of Together, our actions in practice towards these, and how we hope to make a positive difference for children and families known to Cafcass. It shares what each aspect of practice material will look like and provides examples from
the piloting of Together on how these were used. The first step is to understand what the framework is, followed by having a go at using it and practising with colleagues to develop it. It has been developed collaboratively with teams, managers, and leaders to create a framework that connects our practice, our
values and our ambition for exceptional work with all children and their families.
The workbook main parts are:
- Reflective & Group Supervision
- Appreciative Inquiry
- Assessment & case planning
- Family story boards
- Introductory letters and reporting to court
The Together workbook is designed to be used by Cafcass Family Court Advisers to guide their work with children, young people and their families. The workbook demonstrates how materials such as introductory letters, family storyboards and a new style of case planning will help practitioners to strengthen their focus on children’s experiences, wishes and feelings.
