According to a research report by Nuffield Foundation in England, the ratio of obese children in the age group four- and five-year-olds rose from 4.5 per cent within the last year. The problem mostly started around 2005, however, the last year showed a significant increase. This condition can lead to several serious diseases. The Foundation is concerned about the slowing ’significant declines’ in the poor oral health of young children because it can lead to difficulties in their everyday life. On the other hand, the infant mortality rate increased and the low birth weight is also disturbing.

There are several tools the government wants to tackle childhood obesity, such as piloting 10 clinics all around England to support 1, 000 children every year who are suffering from health-related consequences of being obese. During the pandemic children take part in fewer activities and this worsens the situation.
