According to Ofcom, the UK media watchdog, the number of children exposed to online bulling and abuse is on a rise. From 2% of children who said to had been bullied on social media in 2016, this number increased to 9% in 2018. The number of children who reported bulling in social media also increased, from 6 to 11% in the same period. The research touched upon the pressure young people feel on social networks and the present dangers. According to the report findings “children posted different content on these profiles depending on who they allowed to see each profile; more visible accounts tended to be more highly curated, showing a ‘picture-perfect’ self, while less visible accounts tended to be used to show their ‘real self’ to more carefully controlled circles of close friends”.
