War is the nightmare of humanity, and this nightmare affects everyone’s life, especially children’s regardless of whether you are in a war zone or not.

According to Jo Holmes (Our Children, Young People, and Families Lead), this conflict came after a difficult two years of COVID which increased the level of stress and fear. There’s almost a parallel of something starting far away but creeping closer.

Pete, who works with children and young people, says many students have returned to the classroom from half-term anxious about the war and he gives the following advice:

  • Being aware of the inappropriate content broadcast time can disturb them and explain the role of the media and how they can create headlines that are designed to catch our attention.
  • Listening intently to children help them to talk about feelings when a child expresses their worries and anxieties.
  • Don’t just brush it off with comments to make you feel better.
  • Have a united front if you’re parenting together. The model to that you’re able to express your feelings too but that you have control over them.

Moreover, Jo mentioned the importance of hope and early counseling in this challenging time.
