31st March 2022, Budapest, Hungary: Close to 500 professionals from 7 South East European countries attended the final, online conference of the ChildHub, during which, researchers presented the findings of a regional research on supervision. The research was lead by David Wilkins, of Cardiff University, and it explored the current policy and practice around providing supervision to child protection multidisciplinary groups.
The findigs came back with various results: in some countries like Romania the legislation is quite clear, while in others that is lacking (e.g. Croatia), and researchers pointed out, how important such policies are important in establishing regular, and meaningful supervision. On the other hand, legislation is far from enough. Even when that is in place - like in Kosovo - that does not mean it happens in practice. Last, but not least, the understanding of what supervision is varies, some countries mean management of people, while others mean the improvement of professional practice and helping people cope emotionally.
The research also asked people receiving supervision as well as supervisors, to assess the value of supervision and not suprisingly people really appreciated having it: However, interstingly, people who receive supervision least frequently, value it the most! Most probably - although this was not substantited - because they recognise how useful it would be if they received more of the same.
The conference also marks the end of ChildHub's 7.5 years running as a project: from April 2022 the in-country activities - except for peer-to-peer support - will end - but the online Hub remains and is welcoming the contribution of all interested professionals.
The research reports will be available by 7th April for Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia.
