The Convention of the rights of the child was born 30 years ago and The European Parliament organised a conference with international human rights bodies and society actors to build a stronger cooperation and to improve the child rights protection.

The Convention was a breakthrough in realising the children’s rights in the European community, but there are still big differences between the countries. Even though article 2 of the Convention aims to prevent discrimination, child poverty, social exclusion, institutionalization, school segregation is still a common thing in European children’s life.

The ratification of the Convention is still not effective enough to fill the gap between the Convention and the child protection systems. There are still a lot of children at risk of poverty and social exclusion and live in poor health conditions.

To have a better future and achieve full protection of children’s rights the European countries are on the right path but they have to work harder.
