This video introduces the concept of diversion programs and illustrates how they work. Under a diversion program, the offender joins a rehabilitation program which will help remedy their behavior leading to the original arrest, engaging with the community that the offender has affected, and avoiding conviction and a criminal record. The video also describes a few examples of diversion, such as the Teen Alcohol Safety Program. These arguments support the need to divert children away from the criminal justice system, which has been shown to be less effective and more expensive.
