Nowadays many people find it difficult to make friends and create strong bonds. This sad fact is true not only for adults but also for young people. Some of the main factors that affect friendship are the person’s own character, ambitiousness, greediness, envy, etc. However, people are social beings and they cannot stay alone. So, it is very important for parents to teach their children how to build healthy relationships. Children need peers to overcome certain challenges, otherwise, they become terribly unhappy and that may cause future grave problems.

The Children’s Society organisation gives some advice on how to cope with friendships concerns. Here they are:

  • Parents should be ready wherever children are calling for their help related to friendships. Adults must hear complaints in silence and interfere only if this is asked by the youth.
  • Adults should not infer immediately. Instead, they should remain calm and at the end of the session try to be fair.
  • Parents must try the best to make children be actively engaged in community and diverse courses such as through a swimming club, dance class, footy team, or theatre group, to know new people and raise the chances to find and improve friendships.

Worth to check the friendship guide to parents for advice and tips from young people!
