The project "Kits for the Future of Children" raised its target of 20,000 leis at the Swimathon Bucharest competition. Donors were reached through online posts via social media and through music. Romanian Prime Minister Florin Câțu donated directly to the Terre des hommes cause after hearing journalist Ovidiu Vanghele play a song by the Foo Fighters.
With the 20,000 lei (4,000 euros), Terre des hommes Romania will buy personalized packages for 50 children from Dolj, Olt and Gorj counties, who are members of vulnerable groups (who are: Roma or other ethnic groups, at risk of abandonment, children with parents working abroad, children exposed to poverty and social exclusion).
Online donations will be accepted at this link until the end of July, but can also be made in the form of sponsorships. If more money is raised, the Foundation aims to help more children test their desired job and receive the tools to support their education.
The "Kits for the Future of Children" initiative was inspired by the Takeover Day campaign, which takes place annually in November, and gives kids the opportunity to choose a profession. Children, however, need not only mentoring or counseling about their future, they also need concrete preparations for it.
Swimathon is a fundraising campaign organized annually by Fundatia Comunitară București.
